A silly and dangerous driver tried to outrun police after stealing his mother’s car but ended up crashing into a wall in Wigan and writing the car off.
Kieran Atkinson had only been released from jail weeks earlier after serving a lengthy prison sentence for robbery.
Bolton Crown Court heard that his driving was so dangerous that police who tried to stop him called off their pursuit.
The Vauxhall Corsa then turned on its side after it ploughed into a garden wall on Atherton Road, Hindley.
When officers tried to stop the car, Atkinson, from Bolton, sped up and went through red lights at over 85mph.
Clambering out of the destroyed vehicle, 21-year-old Atkinson picked up a brick from the rubble and threatened to throw it at police before attempting to run off.
He was caught and arrested after an officer tripped him up.
Appearing in court via a video link from prison, Atkinson, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking, driving while banned, dangerous driving, assaulting a police officer and having no insurance. He was jailed for two years.
