Wigan Remembers Local Armed Forces Hero 10 Years After His Passing

April 8th marks 10 years since Lieutenant Commander Ian Molyneux sadly passes away.

In 2018, the Armed Forces Hub in Wigan town centre was named Molyneux House in honour of LT CDR Ian Molyneux GM RN, who was sadly killed aboard his submarine in 2011 while bravely tackling a gunman.

The Armed Forces Hub since its inception has helped hundreds integrate back into civilian life by offering housing advice, financial guidance or simply by providing a place they go to chat and make friends with others who have gone through similar experiences.

The second photo is taken from the opening of Molyneux House when Falklands War veteran Simon Weston and Andy Reid, who lost both his legs and his right arm while serving in Afghanistan.

A Wigan Council spokesman said:

“Today marks the 10th anniversary of the death of local serviceman Lieutenant Commander Ian Molyneux and we would like for everyone to pay their respects and remember him.”
